Festivals..

It's Christmas eve. Went to Jo's church that night to watch her perform in a play, basically discussing what is Christmas and why people celebrate it... Which really bring up the point of festivals, what are they and why celebrate them. Why are the common festivals still pretty much celebrated, while alot others are ditched or forgotten? Other than allocated public holidays playing a part in the mood to celebrate, I guess the material gains in the festivals also play a part.

Christmas, a very much commercialised festival in Singaporeans' eyes. Presents and more presents. The original meaning of Christmas to celebrate the birth of a saviour in Jesus is slowly eroding.. Having just celebrated Dong Zhi on Sunday, I also wondered why Dong Zhi has lost much of its significance to Chinese compared to 50 years ago. Dong Zhi was a big festival really.. So, what's left for the Chinese is a Chinese New Year. Now, what is Chinese New Year? Will the younger generations care two-hoots about it if not for ang pows?

Anyway, the past week was spent catching up with relatives and old friends, and eating my favourites. Lastly, Merry Christmas to all.. =)
