Photo Journey..
Went to a photo exhibition with mom today.. Was planning to go out already, then she said she wanna go also, so we made our way down to National Library..
It is basically Yip Cheong Fun's photo exhibition.. This guy is a renowned local photographer who won numerous awards for his prints.. But the name might not ring a bell to us, cos he's passed away in the late 1980s. But his legacy definitely lives on, and I won't dispute that statement..
You see, this guy actually wanted to leave something behind for generations to come.. And he did. Starting from as early as 1930s, he took pictures all round Singapore, that reflected the lives of Singapore migrants.. Their jobs, their religious beliefs, their daily lives etc etc.. Over the years, he would take pictures that tell a million stories.. He also took pictures from exactly the same angle over period of times to tell how that area has changed. An excellent example would be the one on Chinatown. He took one picture in the 1950s and another one in 1978. You could see just how much it has changed, both in Chinatown and the backdrop, where skyscrappers were slowly coming up.. It'd be nice if he was still around to take another shot from exactly the same angle now.
All in all, an afternoon well spent. But was very tired after going through all the pictures.. Inspired too. Anyway, the exhibition is at 10th storey of the National Library, on till mid-May. Do have a look when you are free. =)
Collected my contact print for the roll I shot at the zoo.. The shots are generally ok.. A few shots are very nice.. The white tiger one did not turn out good.. But had a good one with the cheetah and also the zebra. Shall develop those 2 into bigger prints. Heh.. Shall go somewhere to take pictures again this week.. Thinking of where and when. I'm thinking of doing sunrise.. hehe.. Nice.. I shall pack my room soon, and also, get a ring file and some clear sleeves to file my photo works! =)
