Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year everybody!! Well, 2006 is here! Hey, half the decade is gone! Just like that!! Hmm, realise that as you get older, the phrase of "time really flies" gets more real to you..
Well, the new year is here already but I haven't got to a resolution. Well, I think it's better to take things as they come.. Had wanted to resolve exercising regularly, but I think not necessary cos I'd be in NS anyway, resolve or not, have to exercise still.. Heh..
Hmm, here's a list of what proves to me that "time flies", I know it when:
1. My dear nephew is getting himself ready for his first day in primary school..
2. Thinking that in about 100 days, I'll be officially an adult.. 9 years to 30! =S
3. Friends are leaving, albeit temporarily, to pursue their dreams.
4. Toa Payoh is no longer like the one when I stepped foot on everyday.
5. Cousins are now moms and dads.
The list can probably continue.. But I'd like to highlight and explain pt 4 on Toa Payoh.. Well, went to my aunt's place today.. Sorta a "house warming".. She moved into one of the 40-storeys flat beside the central.. Gazing out of her 29th storey unit.. I could see the sky scrapers at Shenton Way. Truly breathtaking view.. I set my sight closer and looked at Toa Payoh. Not that many old flats are left.. Remember the 20-odd storey flat right beside the interchange where alot of ah peks play chess at the void deck?? I remember thinking that that block was freaking tall everytime I walked past it, when I was younger. But it was well dwarfed by all the flats around it now.. Another couple of 40-storey blocks coming up at the plot where Singapore's longest HDB block used to stand.. I dunno why, I feel abit of sadness seeing these developments.. I like those old blocks.. Are they that old that it's unsafe to live in them anymore? But thinking about how people like my aunt can live more comfortably in a new environment, there was some consolation..
I was wondering how the skyline of Singapore would change in 20 years' time.. Seriously.. Every new block built are at least 30-storeys tall.. Probably except the eastern part where planes fly, they are built to be around 20-storeys, tall enough, no?? Would I still be able to see Shenton Way from my aunt's block 10, 15 years later? Or would it be well blocked by other 40 or 50-storey flats, smacked right in front of hers?! I wonder..
Maybe HDB blocks would be built 100-storeys tall when my time's gonna be up 50 years later.. It'd be funny to think about this.. An owner of a 40th storey unit (at say, Ang Mo Kio) now can jump for joy about his/her breath-taking balcony view right to Shenton Way.. 20 yrs later, a resident who just moved into Ang Mo Kio's new 40th storey unit might be able to glaze as far as Bishan? Or maybe, his/her neighbour's bedroom.. New HDB flats are getting nearer and nearer, don't you think so?! Probably magnets are embedded in the cements.. I wonder..
Nonetheless, wishing all a happy 2006 and have a great year ahead full of joy and good health.. Cheers!
